Decorating With Colour - Paint Coverage Calculator.
A guest blog from Adrian Rayfield of Propertydecorating.co.uk
Last year I expanded the range of decorating calculators on my website www.propertydecorating.co.uk to include a paint coverage calculator following the success of how well received and used the wallpaper calculator has been.
The paint coverage calculator is as easy to use as are all the other calculators on the website (wallpaper and tile for example).
First you measure the area to get the required measurements for the height and width of the area to be painted and simply input these numbers into the calculator on www.propertydecorating.co.uk/paint_coverage_calculator.php together with coverage per litre per m2 which can be found on the tin of paint of via the supplier or manufactures website.
You can even choose how many coats you wish to apply. Then you will be given the result of how many litres you need to buy for your given area.
With emulsions I would always recommend applying two coats for a more even coverage, a single coat may leave streaks. Emulsions that ‘cover in one coat’ maybe OK with just the one coat but depending on the colour your going over may require a second coat, this is of course up to you.
With paints such as undercoats and primers just one coat is often enough, however always check the manufactures guidelines first, the same goes with topcoats such as Satinwood and Gloss.
With the paint calculator you cannot only use it for working out how much paint for your walls, but also doors and trim such as skirting boards and in fact anything that can be measured.
As with every year there are new trends in fashion, art, design and decorating, including paint colours. Every year sees a new trend and colour range.
Colours can be used to show your individuality and flair and if you are looking to bring your decoration scheme right up to date this is a great way to do it.
