Feature walls - it doesn't need to be just wallpaper So add texture! Yes, wall paper can give us this wonderful mix of texture and colour but there are other ways to infuse your interior with a more architectural design and contemporary look. We show you how....
FEATURE WALLS ![]() So what is a feature wall? It's a statement wall, a visual highlight in a particular room. It can be painted a different colour to the rest of the room, or wallpapered for example. it might be a bold colour to contrast with a neutral one or something more subtle, something that will highlight the furnishings for example. STONE PANELS Dreamwalls.co.uk, a company based near Grimsby, has exciting stone panels that are a light as can be, don’t cost a fortune or look like an unfortunate seventies throwback! They look like stone but are not stone; the panels are made of high density polyurethane, polyester resin and real marble stone powder which make them both extremely lightweight and durable. There are over 60 styles, a variety of colours and textures - and this all ads up to completely changing the look of a room. This is definitely a DIY job - the panels are delivered with mastic and paint to patch up the joints, easy and fast! Each panel weighs around 5-6kgs and come in 1m² sizes, so they are much lighter than real stone walls - something to think about if you live in a flat, have stud walls or want a feature wall on the second floor of the house. Although Hannah Coleman started the company in 2003 to target the residential market, big names like Selfridges and River Island, amongst others, have put them in their stores to create dynamic feature walls. Modern or more rustic, whatever your taste, this is a great way of injecting a touch of chic texture into any interior.

Don't forget that if you are installing these panels around a fireplace, you must ensure they have an M1 fire certification. Dreamwalls panels do. This modern panel wall, called the White Cubic Panel (above)would look great with a contemporary fire.
